Chunky Glitter Technique

What girl doesn't love a little sparkle?  Adding glitter to a project gives it a great 3-D effect (and makes the recipient feel extra-special!).  Put glitter on a bold area of your stamped image or try a sparkly chipboard circle frame like the one in the project below.

Technique Supplies:  Cardstock or chipboard, clear liquid glue, glitter, rubber stamps, inks

Basic Supplies:  Paper Trimmer, Scissors, adhesive

Technique Instructions:

 1. Spread an even layer of a liquid glue over an area of cardstock or chipboard.  Sprinkle your choice of glitter over the glue until it is completely covered.  Allow to dry.  Attach to your project.   Or-- cover your area with Sticky Strip (or great way to use the "leftovers" from the Sticky Cuts Letters sheets) and press the glitter onto the area.

~ To complete the Cherry Chipboard Art Journal sample:

Cut a 5.25"x5.25" piece of Real Red Cardstock.  Determine which edge you will spiral punch and hold the paper so this edge is towards you. Make a small mark 5/8" from the right edge of the paper. Use your scissors to cut a slit here approx ¼ ” deep.

Take your Spiral Punch and insert the “guide” into the slit you just created and punch. Continue spiral punching until you have 8 holes. Now flip your cardstock over and punch one more time over the slit that you cut in the cardstock.  You should have 9 punches.

Gently insert spiral punched edge of your cover paper around the journal rings. Flip out of the way. Place adhesive on the chipboard Art Journal (25% off in May w/$35 purchase!!) cover. Flip the cover paper back over--line it up along the spiral punched edge and stick it down. Trim the other edges with a craft knife if needed.

Cut a 4.75"x4.75" piece of Summer Picnic Designer Series Paper (old olive stripe print).  Cut a 4.75"x3" piece of Summer Picnic Designer Series Paper (cherry print) and attach it to the green stripe paper approximately 1.4" from the top (see sample picture).  Cut a 4.75"x.75" piece of So Saffron cardstock and attach it to the middle of the cherry print paper.

Take a Large Circle Frame from the On Board Blossoms & Basics chipboard pack (25% off in May w/$35 purchase!!) and color the top and sides with a Real Red Stampin' Write marker.  Cover the top side of the frame with a clear liquid glue (such as Crystal Effects) and sprinkle Red Chunky Glitter evenly over the entire surface.  Allow to dry.

Cut a piece of Summer Picnic Designer Series Paper (old olive stripe print) to the size of the Large Circle Frame and glue it to the bottom of the chipboard frame.    Use Old Olive and Real Red markers on the Cherry rubber stamp from Tart & Tangy (Occasions Mini Collection 2008)--stamp on So Saffron cardstock.  Ink up the Polka Dot Circle rubber stamp from Think Happy Thoughts with Bashful Blue Classic Ink and stamp it over the cherry image.  Use the Scallop Punch to punch out the cherry image.  Glue this scallop punch in the center of the chipboard glitter frame.

Use the Short Order Alphabet with Old Olive and Real Red Classic Ink to stamp a three or four letter word on So Saffron cardstock.  Use the 1" Circle Punch to punch out the letters.  Attach the letters to 1" chipboard circles from the On Board Blossoms & Basics chipboard pack.

Tie a piece of Blue Gingham Ribbon in the middle of the old olive stripe print that shows below the cherry print (see sample picture).  Center and attach the 4.75"x4.75" old olive stripe print paper to the Real Red cardstock Art Journal Cover.

Attach the Glitter Frame to the center of the cherry print paper.  Attach the chipboard Letter Circles evenly spaced over the Blue Gingham ribbon.  Use Crystall Effects on the stamped cherries to make them shiny.

Repeat the Spiral Punch directions on 3 more pieces of 5.25"x5.25" paper to cover the back and inside covers of the Art Journal if you desire.

Here is another sample using the Chunky Glitter:
